Electrical lighting of the Athens – Patras railway line

The completed line, resulting in reduced journey times and upgraded security and comfort, is significantly enhanced by the use of KNX, principally in the illumination of all three new stations of Xilokastro, Akrata and Aigio, as well as that of the six intermediate stops of Diminio, Lykopoyria, Lygia, Platanos Beach, Diakopto and Helici.

The construction includes 19 railway bridges, the control of the illumination of which is carried out by autonomous KNX automatic control systems, in which time control plays an important role in combination with sunshine and the coordinates of the respective station (Astro function).

Finally, to guarantee the proper switching on and off of all the bridge lighting circuits, there is parallel use of brightness with external brightness sensors, measuring levels of daylight to an extremely accurate degree. Indeed, KNX proved to be the only communication protocol able to properly accommodate the special complexity of this project.
